Total fitness means more than being in good physical condition for sports and athletics. It s a way of living a fuller, healthier, happier, more active life. A way of setting and achieving goals that helps us learn to strive for excellence, personal growth and ongoing success every day of our lives. For a quarter of a century at Clark Hatch fitness centers, we have incorporated this total fitness philosophy into everything we do, from developing exercise programs for our members to training our management and staff. At every center throughout Asia, the Pacific region and the United States, our goal is to be nothing less than the best.

From the time you walk through the door at a Clark Hatch fitness center, you will be in good hands. Every one of our gyms is equipped with a full assortment of exercise equipment. Some of our worldwide facilities also offer racquetball, squash, tennis and swimming.

Whether you are working to control your waistline, firm up your muscles, or just keep your body in tune, we will give you all the expert help you need. Every new Clark Hatch member begins with a medical history review and fitness appraisal. When appropriate, various testing equipment is used to evaluate body fat, muscle strength, flexibility and cardiovascular fitness based on test data, along with the member's preferences and objectives, and then an individualized exercise program is prepared.

And this is just the beginning, follow up instruction and motivational programs are available upon request. Clark Hatch, the founder and motivating spirit of Clark Hatch Fitness Centers, opened his first center in 1965 in the heart of Tokyo. It was the first western style health club in the far east, and it continues to be one of the region's most successful centers. Since then, he has founded more than 50 additional centers spanning nearly half the globe. Today, the Clark Hatch fitness network stretches from Honolulu to Japan, China, Indonesia and India.

Wherever the clubs are located, Clark Hatch is an acclaimed leader in the health and fitness industry, a traveling fitness missionary who is himself a walking advertisement for his centers.

Clark Hatch believes that the fitness industry is very much a people business and the success depends on quality people who find satisfaction in helping others enjoy the benefits of exercise. The organization is bolstered by experienced fitness professionals to help carry out the Clark Hatch operations.

The Clark Hatch organization is continually considering options for expansion. With 39 of the Clark Hatch fitness centers located in prominent world class hotels, the organization occupies a special niche in the fitness industry which makes it increasingly popular among upscale hotel developers and operators. To hotels and corporations, the organization offers development and management services for in-house facilities. Turnkey operations and full franchises are also available.

A network of regional vice presidents, similar to international hotel chains, helps Clark administer the planning, implementation, and follow up to ensure an omni presence at each club.

Clark Hatch members who travel frequently are especially lucky. In 12 countries throughout Asia, the Pacific and the United States, the membership is fully recognized at the local Clark Hatch fitness center and members enjoy reciprocal membership privileges.

More than 25,000 citizens of the world are Clark Hatch Fitness Center members. They represent 25 nationalities, ranging in age from 18 years to 90. Each has a personal program for total fitness designed by Clark Hatch professionals.

Centers are located in most major Asian cities, and the United States.

Success, whether in sport, business, personal fitness, or life in general, is almost without exception gained by setting and then working unfailingly toward achieving specific goals. Being set at a high standard these goals must also be reasonable, for by achieving them we find we have risen to a high level of performance and are ready to push our threshold even further. This basic concept is taught to all our members in the Clark Hatch Fitness Centers organization from Jakarta to Honolulu. It is an idea that has helped tens of thousands of people over the years to enjoy a healthier, happier, more active life. Also it has helped many Clark Hatch employees to gain the success and satisfaction they have strived for, within the organization, as well as in their everyday life.

The key to the Clark Hatch philosophy is professional, personal attention. The goals Clark set to achieve in that first center in Tokyo were:

  • To provide an assurance of quality.
  • To give consistency of service.
These proved to be the corner stones for the Clark Hatch philosophy and have stood the test of time. It is the responsibility of all of us in the Clark Hatch family to understand the specific factors which make up these basic tenants and practice them. By providing an assurance of quality we promise to:
  • Provide a staff which is well trained, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly.
  • Have a fully equipped gym that is in good repair, kept clean and has a cheery environment.
  • Provide amenities such as uniforms, towels, lockers, saunas and etc. for the members comfort.
  • Have adequate security which provides controls, yet does not inhibit the freedom and fun for the members.
  • Provide proper exercise programs and attractive motivational programs that will enhance the retention of members.
  • And by striving for consistency of service we have the responsibility to:
    • Provide a worldwide network of fully reciprocal fitness Centers all of the same high standard of quality.
    • Have a membership base large enough to provide the necessary cash flow to provide for programs and interaction with members.
    • Develop a membership that is growing at a steady and predictable rate with only moderate seasonal drop offs.
    • Have an efficient, well organized back of the house administrative system so that accounts and members records are up to date.
    • Attain a profit level based on percentage of revenues that is acceptable to the owners.
  • For fitness professionals who are assigned by the Clark Hatch organization to manage facilities for other companies or hotels, they should uphold the philosophy so successfully that the contractor will be proud enough of the success that they will want to retain an ongoing relationship with the Clark Hatch organization.
Each center has an on-site fitness professional who has been hand-picked for the job. The qualifications are tough: dedication, enthusiasm, loyalty, a health professional, even a physical education degree. Most important, all the Clark Hatch fitness professionals must share Clark's total fitness concept.

But at Clark Hatch, growth, even financial growth, is not the main goal. It is fitness. Fitness is an essential part of life, and if we can be involved in helping other people realize that, then we have achieved our goal.
